I really wanted to like this movie. I wanted to be artsy and forward thinking. Unfortunately, I could not keep my eyes open during the second half of this movie. The first 40 minutes were fun and interesting. The last hour was a snooze fest.
There was a reason that people stopped going to silent movies in the 1930's. There was a reason that talkies took over. Talkies are much more interesting. Give me dialogue!
Berenice Bejo was beautiful and captivating, but she was not enough to carry this movie.
Good but not great. I guess that I am not artsy enough to appreciate this "gem."
I was expecting so much more from this movie. I found myself looking at my watch and hoping that it would end soon.
I expect that there will be disappointing ticket sales. Instead of calling friends and telling them to see this movie, I thought about calling social services. It exemplified the disconnect between main stream Hollywood and Main Street America. The idea that foul mouth cursing from children was funny is unbelievable. The ten year old daughter's cursing and conduct was deplorable. It may be explained by the gutter mouth from her 17 year old sister who taught her horrible curse words with no consequences. She was disrespectful. If Clooney's character was not the richest man in Hawaii, the school would have called the authorites.
I felt very little for these characters. Alexander Payne is very lucky that Clooney is in this movie. Without Clooney, this movie would not be mentioned. The premise of seeking out and confronting your dying wife's boyfriend was too much.
I had such expectations. Damon is usually excellent. He tried the best he could, but this was a snooze fest. I did not care one bit about the characters. Mark Whitacre was a nut and his mental illness made the movie very uncomfortable. No one was particularly likeable. The story did not need to be told. It was a big, "So What!"
I wish an Informant had warned me to stay away from this dud. The sure sign should have been an empty theater on a Saturday night -- only one week after its release - with major fanfare.
Great Movie!! Don't miss this gem. Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt were perfect together. They had good chemistry and they are two of the best young actors in Hollywood.
Remember -- this is not a love story, it is a story about love. Even for a 51 year old couch potato, this was a lovely story ABOUT love, about youthful first love.
I loved this movie. Easily one of the five best I have seen this year. Marc Webb's direction was spot on. It was new and inventive. His techniques worked.
Do not over analyze this movie and search for plot inconsistencies. Take it in. Wait for a day or two before you decide. It was a good movie.
Blomkamp did an incredible job in his debut. The special effects were great. The story line was inventive. It was a nice movie experience. It will not make the Poolman's top ten, but I did not regret seeing this movie. I accepted it for what it was -- a cool, inventive cinematic experience. Just don't be over critical.....
Adam was an enjoyable movie. Rose Byrne was excellent. She is a younger Jennifer Connely -- and just as talented. I loved her performance. Hugh Dancy's character by his nature was harder to get close to. It was nice to see the character's growth through the movie.
I highly recommend this movie. Plus the sound track was incredible.
I saw this movie on a lazy Sunday afternoon with no expectations. What a pleasant surpise! It was wonderful.
Streep was superb as always. Amy Adams was perfect. Nora Ephron is a master in this genre and she was on top of her game. Nora had all the right ingredients for this perfectly acted tale. The recipe for a great movie: Streep and Adams. Cooked to just the right temperature.
I loved Tony Scott's direction of this actor driven heist drama. The movie had a great rhythm.... a good pace. The tension was interspersed with humor. Travolta and Denzel were perfectly cast. The only thing keeping it from a 5th Star was the gratuitous violence. I understand that it was necessary for the plot. Nevertheless, it was brutally graphic. I very pleasant surpise -- a fun movie night. Great job, Tony Scott. You are at the top of the action genre.
The movie was pretty and well made. Adolescent love is interesting .... for a while. I went to the 8:15 pm show and fell asleep for a brief bit of the movie. The movie needed editing. 2 1/2 hours was too long. There were long, unnecessary scenes. It was merely a transition movie to bring Harry to the final book. If you are invested in the franchise, then you don't have a choice. It is your duty to pay your money and see Half Blood Prince. It just was not that much fun. Pass me my pillow and wake me up when the credits roll.
