Important to separate the performance at the Met from the broadcast technology and the individual theater.
The performance was wonderful- as a diehard Rene Fleming fan, it was great to see her in a vehicle that let her simply sing. The music was lovely. The plot was silly, a minor price to pay to hear her.
I have only seen a few HD broadcasts, but each has had some tech glitches. This time it was the sound going out until the overture began, and the video coming online after the curtain went up. I don't know whether this was nationwide, or a local problem. The sort of chance you take by not being there in person.
The theater otherwise was very good, no noise distraction from other shows, and a better choice of refreshments than usual at a multiplex.
Overall, compared to the cost of going to NYC to see the opera at the Met, a terrific deal.
