Not trying to be a hater but this is overrated. It's a solidly made movie but besides the 3D (which can give you a headache if you're not careful), it's not a lot we haven't seen before. It's good enough but why everyone made such a big deal about it, besides that it was King Jim Cameron's newest thing, is beyond me. But hey, that's just me. Everyone else liked it, that's great. Just not my thing. Looking forward to where he takes the world he created after this, though.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The first half an hour or so is brilliant. Unfortunately, it becomes just another regular space-aliens action movie after that, though that's not horrible. It tries to split the difference between the two formats and doesn't work as well as it wants. The visual effects are an achievement and if they weren't done so well and so well-integrated they'd probably get more acclaim. Unfortunately, effects done in Hollywood movies anymore -- the ones that are done well -- blend in so seamlessly that it's only the most obvious, in-your-face ones that really get the recognition as being EFFECTS. The point that the movie is trying to make doesn't even matter so much. A good, well-made movie (except for that P.O.V. shift).
Yes, I recommend this movie.
