Every fight scene goes on WAY too long and most of the stunts are completely unbelieveable. I miss the original Mission Impossible where the technology was believeable and the story lines/suspense much more complicated.
This movie was a disapointment--very inconsistent. Despite some great talent and a lot of money, the jokes were uneven. I laughed at certain points, and groaned or was completely bored at other points. Can't understand why it was so inconsistent.
I do not know why the critics have been so hard on this movie. I thought the story was great and the cast was terrific. As a reader of the original graphic novel, I thought the writers and producers were true to the original form and intent. Each actor did a great job capturing the essence of his/her character. Certainly entertaining and worth the price of admission. And the story itself is very compelling.
I do agree with the reviewers that some of the graphic violence was hard to sit through, but I did not feel like it was pornographic or gratuitious--it is part of what we are supposed to think about regarding of what level of evil is man capable.
I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in this genre.
This was a big dissapointment. I was pleased that it was not as violent as Casino Royale. The action sequences were a disappointment, though. The camera work was so jittery and cut-up, I felt nauseous. The new James Bond movies add nothing to the action genre. I do not like the brooding Bond (though I enjoy Daniel Craig's acting--they could do do much more with him) , and where are all the crazy gadgets from the old movies! Plus the villans are not diabolical geniuses with fatal flaws (most notably, their huge egos). Instead, the villian's goal is to run the water utilities of a country? I can open the newspapers to find this plot--I just have to follow the work of the big mulitnational corporations across the globe.
From the various reviews I read, I had lower expectations for this movie, but I enjoyed it tremendously. James McAvoy was terrific, as were the performances of Jolie and Freeman. I found the storyline intriguing and I did not find the stylized violence excessive. The audience loved it.
