Because this is called a "children's movie", I am giving it 1 star. Yes, it's well made, beautifully filmed, etc, but it is obscenely dark and should not me aimed at the same children who are reading the book! Perhaps pre-teens and teenagers might find the depressing point of view interesting, but thankfully my 8 & 5 year olds were oblivious to most of the "adult" messages. But one good thing came out of going, I was able to say again to my kids, "read the book, it's usually much better!"
No, I do not recommend this movie.
