My 7 year old asked multiple times how much longer the movie would be. Although the action portions of the film kept his attention, the longer story-filled parts did not. Also, it was a little hard for him to keep up with the subtitles. Great acting by both Jackine Chan (who should have FIRST BILLING) and Jaden Smith.
When it was funny, it was very funny. When it was serious, it was pretty serious. Basic good triumphs evil. Basic Jack Black humor. A bit violent, although not graphic, with lots of fight scenes. My 5 year old was a little scared at times. Overall, not bad.
My 5 year old was a bit concerned about the father's welfare - wondering whether he had died. He also didn't understand at all Jodie Foster's role in the movie. Overall, though, the movie combined enough adult elements to keep it interesting for us while not overwhelming for the kids. All in all, it was a very good family movie, which is quite a rarity these days. Abigail Breslin is a tremendous young actress.
