Iron Man 2 picks up right where the original left off -- so much so, that the two could almost be one, long movie. That's not to say it's not a stand alone movie, it definitely is -- and it has none of the Second Movie syndrome that "X-Men 2" or "The Two Towers" had. This was a solid action movie, with good performances all around -- including the villains, Mickey Rourke muttering in Russian and Sam Rockwell as the industrialist Justin hammer. Fun and fast-paced, although the movie is at its best when Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark, and not when he's Iron Man.
Not just for comic book fans. And stay all the way through the credits...
If you're looking for a fast-paced movie with lots of weapons, two dimensional characters, a tissue of a plot, and more gun shots than words, then WANTED is just the movie for you.
The actors are largely going through the motions, but with a movie a kinetic as this one, that's not a bad thing. Angelina Jolie plays Fox, a watered down combination of most of the other characters we've seen her play recently from Grendel's Mother to Lara Croft. Morgan Freeman, as Sloan, reprises his role of 'mysterious wise old man' from the Batman movies, The Shawshank Redemption, or the "Almighty" movies. Britsh actors Terence Stamp and Marc Warren are basically wasted.
Yet, there's a certain comfort in the utter lack of surprises and predictable plot twists. Firedns turn out to be enemies, enemies turn out to be friends, and Darth Vader turns out to be Luke's father. Again.
Still, you don't go on a rollercoaster for the scenery, and if you're looking for an artfully done thrill ride, WANTED fits the bill.
