Better Than Expected

I always love it when the critics hate a movie. That means I have no expectations. I have to say I was very entertained. I enjoyed it much better than Clash of the Titans. It flowed well, the plot was pretty good, and the fight sequences were awesome.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Do Not Compare to the Original...

First off, I'd give this movie 3.5 stars if I could. But do not compare this movie to the original. As it is, the myths are commonly interpreted many different ways. And I realize what kind of filtering effects nostalgia can have when someone can't release that emotional attachment of the original that captured their young imagination. We actually watched the original movie the night before and believe me, besides the scary stop-motion animation of Medusa that is just plain creepy almost by accident, that movie was horrible.
Take this movie for what it is... entertainment. The Kraken is just about the scariest monster I've seen on screen and the Scorpions were impressively horrific as well. Hades was a powerful character. Although it's sad to see how Harry Potter's Voldemort persona had to come through in this performance, type casting the actor who no doubt has more diverse talent. Poor move on the director going safe.
I do have a few gripes. The acting of the peasant who said all should fear Hades was horrible. So horrible, it almost took the whole movie down with it. He was not believable and painfully out of place. I was glad he wasn't very prominent throughout the movie.
This movie could have been better but it's much better than the original. I also think they're trying to set up for a sequel (surprise). I wonder what they'll do.
Final gripe is that movies are getting so expensive. I understand 3D has a cost associated. But why not allow people to buy their glasses and opt out on that admin fee associated with getting them cleaned and redistributed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Don't waste your money. This movie had some chuckles, but the story-line is a bit weak. I almost fell asleep. We did laugh a few times and the movie had a different blend of humor.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
