Fun, campy, and a little vapid but entertaining--mostly. Until the ending.

An entertaining flick that lost steam 3/4 way through and at that point, reminded me of other movies I've seen. I'm glad we saw it in the theatre, as much of what was good about Dark Shadows--the world of the movie, its style, effects, etc.--would have been less spectacular on the small screen. Johnny Depp rocks, as usual, along with the rest of the cast. Great acting. Great music. Great everything. Just light on story. Or at least a well-developed, sensical story. Overall, if you're willing to suspend imagination and just go with it, you'll enjoy it.

Provocative but Predictable

The black/white theme was overdone and the movie predictable, and yet I enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but it was definitely entertaining. In retrospect, there were bits and pieces that didn't add up, but it's nice to see something different from the usual mindless faire. As we filed out of the theatre, everyone -- everyone -- was talking feverishly about it, which I rarely experience. So it's at least provocative.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
