A Paradigm Shift in Cinema Experience

Avatar 3-D (in IMAX) is a new experience in cinema -- the 3-D is wonderful without being too distracting. This is a classic war epic, with the American Military as the bad guys in a futuristic struggle for scarce mineral resources at the expense of the lives -- and spiritual wealth -- of the indigenous culture of another planet. The story line was not exceptional, and the script was less than poetic. I understand the value of visual spectacle in the pyro-technics of a war movie, but I would have preferred to see the Americans fighting for something enlightened. Nevertheless, this film is a "must see": it changes the movie-going experience at a fundamental level. Entirely amazing and enjoyable, even if it is not perfect.
