A good movie is appealing to a specific audience. A great movie entertains an even broader audience. This may have been great for gamers but as a sci fi fan it fell short. But the lead actor held his own. (The only reason I went.) It seemed like the primary purpose of the movie was, "How can we get an "R" rating?" Even if it has nothing to do with the story. Sad.
It's tricky going from comic book to the big screen. Most people probably expect to see a carbon copy of what they remember as kids. It's almost impossible to duplicate what you saw in your mind on the big screen. Overall, I think they did a decent job of adapting the story to the big screen. Good "summer movie".
From someone who did read the comics they did pretty good. Great casting of main characters. And of course plenty of leads for future installments. These story lines were always more complex then the old school superheros i.e. superman and batman so its understandable that newbies find it harder to follow. The screen version is always different from the original print but the didn't mangle it beyond recognition.
Although it didn't have the same epic feel of the movies, it did do a good job of setting the stage for a TV cartoon series. My son liked it but was not "thrilled" by it.
I was very dissapointed. Without the cursing and extremely crude humor this would be a really good movie. If they re-release it, with the former Will Smith standard (meaning no crud), I would recommend it to others, but not this original version. I had to double check the MPAA Rating on the way out! Parental Guidence Suggested? Some material "may" not be suitable...
