I'm not holding my breath waiting for the Oscar nods - at least not until they have an award for Sappiest Romantic Feel-good movie. But unless your religion or self-image prohibits enjoying pablum of this ilk, you are sure to be entertained. Scores of stars play perfectly preposterous parts resulting in a film full of fun. Enjoy.
Despite the versatility that Reese W. has demonstrated among her many roles, I frequently go to her performances expecting to be disappointed, thinking that she finally has stepped outside her range. I am always wrong! You'd think I'd learn, and "...Elephants" is an example, where she has trained to work with horses, elephants and trapeze artists so well as to be a convincing circus performer. Amazing! And beautiful!
Not that Reese is the whole story here. The screenplay, direction, cinematography, costuming and most of the casting are all major contributors to a production that honors the tone and depth of the book.
There seems to be conflicting information about the treatment of the animals, and this is a concern. But I choose to believe that my darling Reese would not be party to any mistreatment.
There are some difficult and some moving scenes. With that caveat, whether or not you've read the book, you will leave the movie having been entertained.
Just found out that I love this Natalie Portman (not the scary one from Black Swan). This film had lots of chemistry, a touch of reality, and was a nice balance of cute, sad and sexy.
Very realistic, but, of course, it is substantially true. Oscar-caliber acting throughout. Amy Adams, in this "tough-broad" role, shows her remarkable versatility. The film is not always easy to watch, but it is impossible to ignore. Terrific.
It's just that kind of flick. The characters are entirely comfortable. The story is entirely predictable. The scenery is entirely beautiful. No stress, no worries, just nice romantic fluff, and I mean that in a good way. Hard not to like Vanessa Redgrave anyway.
This is a light, funny, action-packed affair. Tina Fey is her normal funny, attractive self. Steve Carell, who usually doesn't impress me, was versatile and funny. Definitely worth the time if you want a couple of hours of high-energy entertainment.
the performances were terrific. the story was emotional, though the presentation chose to avoid most of the harsher realities of the truth. bullock was great. deserved her oscar.
Amy Adams always surprises me with her versatility and her uncommon balance of being sensual, cute, funny, romantic and tough. Hard to imagine that women don't find Matthew Goode handsome and sexy. The movie was comfortably predictable, laugh-out-loud funny, and full of terrific chemistry.
