I loved the first movie and was looking forward to the sequel. The story was ok, but has been done so many times and is very predictable. The special effects were great but you get tired of explosions and movies being only about special effects. The movie had great potential but it just did not come through. I looked at my watch 4 times during the movie, as it could have been 20 minutes shorter. Save you money and rent it when it comes out. Oh well, there is already part 3.
I loved the 1st Iron Man and the 2nd was not bad either. However, the 3rd, though good, seemed too long. Should have cut 15-20 minutes out of it. Story was ok but predictable. Best parts were with the little kid and Tony Stark.Special effects were great. WIll there be a 4th part? Do't waste you time sitting through the long credits, no teaser, just some fun. Wait for video unless you are a true Iron Man or comic book fan.
A beautiful adaptation of a great story. The acting is great and uses lesser known actors which is always a nice change. The story is very good, though there are a few times that movie becomes slow and tiresome. The story is very spiritual and does focus on Christianity but do not let that turn you away. The tiger effects are amazing and it is hard to believe it is not real. I do not think this movie will appeal to everyone and I am uncertain that I would bring children under 15 to see it. If you are looking for a good story and amazing effects this is a great show. I would see it in 3D on a big screen.
The Avengers is a 2 hour and 20 minute action packed, fun ride. The beginning is a bit slow, but I think this was needed as it introduces you to the characters backgrounds. Probably needed since all who come to see this will not be familiar with the comics and other movies. The story is good, though the villain, Loki, just looks silly most of the time when compared to the other characters. The film bogs down a bit in the middle and could be about 20 minutes shorter. The 3D was very good, but not necessary to enjoy the movie. As for special effects, the Hulk was the best animation of his character yet. He seemed more lifelike and not the poor rendering we have seen in the past. Ironman was still the draw. His character and personality, though obnoxious, is alway fun. The charter of David Banner was done well and showed the great extremes between he and the Hulk. All and all, a good, fun, summer movie. Stay through the credits, a new must in movies, to see the teaser of Part 2.
The story is very good and frightening. Very realistic. However, the story moves very slow. The cinematography does not help. The film is intelligent and a refreshing departure from the usual high tech, 3-D, special effects story which this could have been. However, attention to detail is lacking here. The world starts falling apart and nurses, police are not coming to work, yet everyone seems to have power, internet and cell phone service...a bit silly. Wait for this one on DVD.
So, I wanted to like this movie. However, I should have known from the opening credits (too long, too cliche) and the opening title it would be bad. The premise of the film was Poltergeist vs Paranormal Activity. The film was boring, clique, and just not scary. I laughed most of the way through, that is when I was not looking at my watch. Much wasted potential. Skip it and if you feel you really need to see it, rent in in 2-3 months.
I am personally not a fan of the "reality documentary" type movie. Blair Witch was great but most since then most have been bad or the camera gets annoying. However, the story is fresh and the acting is great. That is hard to say being this is a horror movie, but the preacher and the farmer's son are great characters and the actors do them justice. The movie is just plain creepy. Louisiana and the farm scene provide a great back drop to the story. The movie is dark, truly scary, and pulls you in. Just when you think you realize what is going on, it changes. There are no cheap scares in this movie. The end has a nice twist and remember, this is a horror movie. No good deed goes unpunished and there are no happy endings. Best horror film of the year!
If you are not a Joan Rivers fan, skip the movie. Joan is funny, vulgar, and thought provoking. SHe is driven but insecure and it makes you feel both happy and sad for her. It seems she has never reached the point in her life where she wants to be and it seems she will never reach that place either. The film is worth seeing if you know who Joan is but if you are a fan, it is a must see. Stay through the credits to get a few more laughs.
A great ride. The movie is not as complicated as Memento but this is a fun, fast paced Chris Nolan event. The acting is well done, the special effects amazing. Sit back and fall into the world of the dream. Not a movie to get up in the middle, don't blink or you will miss trying to decide if you are in reality or a dream or a dream in a dream.
If you like Tim Burton, go see it. If you do not or think this is a kids movie, stay away. I thought it was fun to look at and the overall ride was great. I did not think the 3-D was over done, which is nice. The characters were amusing. The end is not like the book. Johnny Depp was his usual quirky self.
