You know exactly where this story is going - evil boss blackmails underling into marrying her so she can become a citizen - but the journey has some fun moments. Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are a believable couple and Betty White is a hoot as 90-year-old Gammy. But were the lame male stripper and Gammy's dance in the woods necessary? No.
Johnny Depp is a cool as ever as bad man John Dillinger and Christian Bale is fine as Melvin Purvis, his nemesis, but there's no story set up or character background. And it irritates me when filmmakers stay with some facts and mess with others when there's no reason for it.
Great explanation of how Wolverine came to be, but it would have worked without the constant violence. Hugh Jackman does a fantastic job in the title role. Liv Schreiber eats up the scenery and seems to be having a great time as the baddest of the bad guys. The ending was a bit ambiguous for those who don't know the comic books. Lives up to the blockbuster hype.
My 10-year-old granddaughter couldn't wait to see "High School Musical 3," and I went with her thinking I would tolerate it for her sake. Well, I did more than tolerate it - I loved it! It was a real treat from beginning to end. Great cast, great music, great fun!
