I only read the first Potter book but saw all the movies as I knew they were a period defining set. Watching the last installment wasn't exciting but it did give me an interesting point of reference. The special effects were spectacular and the story moved along at a good pace. I saw these characters grow up and realized how impactful this must be for the children that were inspired to read again and who followed this story. Bless J.K. Rowling, Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson, Rupert Grind and all the rest of the Potter family. Now you wonder what will be next...
What a great movie! The story was a bit predictable however the cast pulled it off. The three stooges did well. Even Jennifer Aniston, who normally bugs the #$%& out of me, was spot-on. Kevin Spacey didn't have to stretch to fall into character and Colin Farell surely has some life experience to help him with his character study. Horrible Bosses went where the Hangover Part II was trying to go. This movie was fraught with just the right amount of instances of uncomfortable laughter, shock, and plain belly aching guffaws.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Bad Teacher should have been better considering when you consider the cast. Bad Teacher woulda been better if the script was better written. Bad Teacher coulda been better if the comedic timing was sharper.
I didn't have high expectations so I wasn't dissappointed. After seeing the Green Hornet, I was worried that the next "green" superhero would be a let down too. Not so much. No the screen play wasn't Pulitzer prize worthy, but sometimes a movie is just a movie. Thrills, visuals, laughs, and a set up for a sequel. Well, that pretty much sums up "The Green Lantern." Ryan Reynolds and Peter Sarsgaard did a great job carrying the movie and Blake provided some "lively" eye candy. So far, X-men First Class is the superhero winner in my book for substance, but Green Lantern served up plenty style.
My review title says it all. Super 8 was an homage to the Spielberg movies like E.T. and Clost Encounters from the feel and the predominance of adolescents. Elle Fanning was the stand out in every way, but her posse of teenage boys held their own.
What can I say, I loved it. Matthew Vaughn did an excellent job developing the characters and giving us all the back story on how the X-Men clan got their start. While most of the focus was on Magneto, the beginnnings for the rest were clearly laid out in a intelligible and entertaining way. I also thought the acting was superb as welll as the special effects.
There was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y no no ground covered in Part II. The characters and story were essentially the same. The only difference this time was that the venue was Bangkok. I am bewildered by Hollywood's lack of creativity or risk taking. Just because you hit the mark once doesn't mean you have to keep rehashing the same old... It will be a hit because there was no competition. So go see it if you have nothing better to do with your $15 (I went to the bargain matinee).
I am a sucker for comic books and super heroes because I love action. All in all, Thor was a bunch of eye candy and the CGI and 3D were actually very realistic. Parts of the story were a little weak, but the visuals kind of made up for it. Thor was very entertaining.
After reading the reviews for Limitless, I was concerned, but it was for naught. Limitless was visually entertaining and you can't go wrong with DeNiro.
