Neither my wife nor I have read the book, but we both lived in the south, not Mississippi, during the 60's and saw different parts of the civil rights era. The movie portrayed familiar characters and attitudes which brought back the injustices and stupidity of some, along with the uplifting courage and, for want of a better term, righteousness, of others. It was a bit like being in a time warp. I recommend this to anyone who wishes to get a flavor of the interactions between a certain part of affluent white society and their black employees during that period. The movie is fun, funny, uplifting and inspiring, all at the same time.
Classic spy thriller/shoot-em-up. It's a case of old, retired spies, not all American, from the cold-war era being targeted for what they know. They band together and take on the new bad guys: domestic US politicians. The aging stars all do a superb job. Helen Mirren's one of my favorites. Richard Dreyfuss, another favorite, plays the baddie in this one. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
While it was a little over the top, it was a fun movie to watch. Both my wife and I enjoyed it completely. There's nothing in common with the old TV show other than the character names.
Well plotted and very well animated. My wife, who tends to pooh-pooh all animated films, enjoyed it, as did I. She had gotten a bit queasy watching Avatar in 3-D, but there was no such problem with Dragon. It was a movie with a lesson and a message, but it was not heavy-handed.
It was nice to see a movie that was actually better than the previews. That doesn't happen often. My wife and I both laughed more than we had at any movie in ages. It had its sad points, but, in general, it was a movie about how relationships proceed, and mature. Life affirming.
Johnny Depp does his usual great job of getting into the character. He doesn't make a hero of Dillinger, but he shows him as a human being. Neither were the government agents made either villains or heroes. The bloody parts, mainly gun battles and their aftermath, weren't overdone, and there were several in the course of the movie. This period of time in the annals of American crime was when personal ownership of automatic weapons was outlawed, because the cops were outgunned, and many bystanders were wounded and killed in the gun battles. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed the show.
