Well done and hilarious, with even a couple of genuine scares thrown in. Woody Harrelson plays his role to the hilt, and Abigail Breslin is perversely adorable. If you're a fan of "Shaun of the Dead", you'll certainly love this Americanized version.
If you are a Quentin Tarantino fan, then you will love this movie as it uses his whimsical style of direction and story telling. Lots of action, and the story is very engaging. You'll barely notice the 2.5 hr running time. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of some of the historical liberties he takes, which I found distracting. Otherwise, I highly recommend this movie.
This has special effects for the sci-fi junkies, heavy political alegory for the activists and poli-junkies, and great drama for the movie snobs. If I have one criticism (positive) is that the basic premise is kind of a rip of the 70's movie "Watermellon Man" which follows the same "shoe on the other foot" concept.
This is the first movie this season that I've given a 5 star review, and it was well deserved. I would urge everyone, regardless of your politics, to see this movie. I'd even go so far as to say take the kids. There's a learning experience for them despite the R rating (mostly for violence).
Don't get me wrong. I liked the movie as a whole. But the story was way too predictable and played too much like the cartoon it was based on. Your kids will love it, you'll sit through it.
Small footnote. Did anyone else besides me think that the Barroness looked a bit like Sarah Palin?
The actors, Bale and Depp, were good enough in their respective roles, which is saying a lot given there was no interaction between their characters. However, the movie itself was slow and plodding in most places. You felt every second of the 2hr 23min running time. Do yourself a favor and wait for the DVD, that way you can pause it when you get tired.
Certainly one of the funniest, if somewhat vulgar, movies of the season. Mostly a guy movie, reminiscient of the movie "Bachelor Party" (starring a much younger Tom Hanks). Word of warning: NOT FOR KIDS. Also, if you're easily offended by displays of pornography, leave at the credits. There's a scene in there that goes WAY beyond R-rated.
The arthouse critics panned this movie as lowbrow, which is the exact reason you should see it. This is the perfect popcorn movie for the summer. The action is non-stop almost from the beginning, and the story keeps you on the edge right up to the end. You won't even notice the 2.5 hr running time, as the action makes it fly by. Great sequel to the first one, and it truly establishes the franchise.
Certainly a good action movie. Travolta's character was the highlight of the movie. He infused the character with such emotion that you almost found yourself rooting for him. Highly recommended.
Not that this was a particularly bad movie. In fact it was pretty good, just not worth the price of admission just to see a rehash of the old Terminator themes of Man vs. Machine. They blew up enough stuff to keep the fanboys happy, but if you're looking for story, you're probably bound to be disappointed. Save your money for the DVD.
If I had to compare the two, I liked DaVinci better. However, as an action flick, this was very good and very well written. I didn't go into quite as much detail into the "history" of the church as The DaVinci Code, which was a bit disappointing. However, the story did keep you engaged and it was quite enjoyable. Dan Brown fans will be pleased.
