Based on reviews and previews, I set the bar low (on the ground) for this one. That was a great idea, because the movie exceeded my expectations. It had some moments, but the constant mall scenes did get monotonous. My 14 year old and his friend enjoyed it, esp. the stunts and slapstick.
This is a Hugh Grant-esque take on accepting a woman who lies, cheats, and steals, for who she is. This is due to her incredibly bubbly personality and unbridled/untapped creativity. The leading lady (Isla Fisher, also seen as the nympho in Wedding Crashers) beats Jennifer Aniston any day. The believability meter on this one is low, but if your brain can be switched off, the movie is fun.
Steve Carrell puts a new twist on Max; in fact, he is paying homage to the original Max, we never quite glean his last name, who he is, or where he came from. There are many other tributes to the original show, which makes it a bit more fun. This included a brief appearance by Bernie Koppell. The action sequences were very good. The plot line was a bit thin, Spy Kids-esque. Some of the physical humor was a bit hard to watch, but nothing was too violent/gory. This is a good, no-brainer choice, that will hold you interest for the fairly short duration.
