PERFORMANCES - top notch at every level. Rachel McAdams is superb, in a class by herself. The three vets (Ford, Keaton, and Goldblum) show why they're stars. Strong supporting cast, as well. PLOT - good main plot with enough clever sub-plots to make the story interesting throughout. SCRIPT - This was a really GOOD movie that could have been a really GREAT movie with a better script. The story line was good (different from "Broadcast News" once you get past the introduction). The scenes seem real, so someone did their homework on the backgroud. However, the dialogue was too uneven and ended up falling flat at times when it didn't have to - and wouldn't have in the hands of a writer with a better handle on dialogue and pacing. The actors did the best they could and made it better, but the script was just a bit too uneven. OVERALL - definitely worth seeing, but would have been just as good on DVD.
Really enjoyed the new plot elements. True to the books with as much as you could put in a movie from a book. Well done overall on the special effects, except the "wolves" are a little too unrealistic and cartoon-ish. The acting is still stiff but the now older actors are still believable as teens. The cliffhanger ending left me definitely wanting to see the next installment.
The Mummy III was worth seeing - the special effects were excellent, the actors, the concept, the locations, etc. - all great. There was lots of action. The Yetis were awesome. However, the wrting was a sketch that wasn't quite finished. Not enough funny lines, not enough subplot development, not enough build up to make the emperor all that scary. A typical Saturday matinee summer movie, like some of the later Star Wars movies - enjoyable but leaves you wishing they'd done more with all they had to work with.
