This movie was bland. Since Disney bought it, it has been getting worse with each iteration. This one didn't have any catchy phrases or musical numbers; it was long and boring.
Never mind the bad derivative script.... This is typical Hollywood propaganda. "White" evil US military vs. poor stupid natives. It is racist to the "Indians" and to the "whites". Get off your mighty liberal Hollywood horse, James Cameron. Stop portraying our wonderful military that saves lives around the world as "baby killers" and stop presenting "tree-hugging" as a hight of an indigenous culture. The special effects are great, but the propaganda the movie is pushing is disgusting.
Flat, derivative, uneventful, disappointing, Hollywood propaganda - big corporations bad, technology bad, army bad and stupid, Americans are either vane and turn into useless parasites or dystopian and turn into garbage of society at a drop of a hat. Progressives left their paws all over this one. I am surprised Bruce Willis agreed to this. This must have looked better on paper.
From any other director, this would be a "C" effort, but for Tarantino it is a "D" - very straight forward, with no twists, irony or any other typical Tarantino stuff. I had to switch my brain off to watch it. What a disappointment.
They seemed to have all the elements - actors, script, money, awesome effects, but somewhere it went really wrong. There are too many characters with their own side stories, making the overall plot choppy, sketchy and incoherent. The bad guys are grotesquely bad, which takes away from the quality of the movie. In some parts the movie feels like for 10 year olds, in other part it is for adults. Why can't they make a good movie? They have all the elements, all they have to do is try.
It is alive, but it is a reanimated monster. The Vulcans were not Vulcans, Spock had neither any of Leonard Nemoy's mannerisms nor essence of Spock. They got Kirk's character, mannerisms and storyline right, but unfortunately it was not enough. It felt like JJ Abrams watched a few random episodes, didn't understand, feel or even liked Star Trek. He took it as an ego centric power trip to make it "better" and in the process didn't bother to keep it Trek. How can you make a movie without liking the story or feeling the characters or understanding the ideas and ideals it represents? I am shocked at what they have done to the time line too. They negated 40 years of Universe that appealed to so many people, shaped our culture and technology.
Jason Statham is doing typical Jason Statham. If you liked him in other movies, you will be happy with this one. Butt-kicking all the way... The plot is stupid if you know anything about Ukraine or have any common sense. However, out of the latest movies of this type, this is not the worst one. The stupidity of the plot does not interfere with the enjoyment of the action and the fight scenes.
I loved the first movie and was utterly disappointed with the second one. They should have invested more into the script and writers instead of the multitude of useless characters that look like escapees from Pan's Labyrinth. The actors did a good job, but the writers and director didn't. The love dialogue sounds like George Lucas wrote it. I am waiting till Hollywood figures out that we, the audience of these movies, are 20 to 30 somethings, not 12!!! The story is full of holes, the action is plenty, but full of bad wire work, "the doctor Evil is so evil", and snappy one-liners are scarce and out of context. Same people made the first movie, what the hell happened?
A very good movie. Consistant, coherent story with exciting bits of action. Jason Statham has more of an acting part than usually; he shines as a performer in this one. The supporting cast is very solid too. The movie is dynamic enough to keep you occupied for a couple of hours. We go to the movies a lot and we have been disappointed so many times lately; this one is a nice surprise. FYI we like action, sci fi, fantasy, comedy, kung fu and anything with a consistant plot, reasonably good acting and direction, and dynamic action.
