Don't be fooled by the promos. This is a chick flick.
I thought with Captain Kirk and Captain Picard, how can you go wrong.... this is how....
Witherspoon is the main attraction.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Very good and engaging

This is a very entertaining and engaging movie. The visuals are great. Hugh Jackman is very good, as usually. The kid is good too.
There are some sappy, gooey Spielberg moments I could do without, but since the movie was light on propaganda, I guess I can live with it.
This is one of the few movies, which didn't make me feel cheated out of $10 when I was leaving the theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not the Curse of Golden Flower, but enterntaining

The movie was fun. I expected the quality of the Curse of the Golden Flower, but that didn't pan out. Nonetheless, it was entertaining.
The plot was good, though at some points it got a bit soap-operish. Acting was very good.
The fights were a bit choppy, not the same quality as Crouching Tiger.
The visuals were great, except in places where they were too digitized and looked like unfinished computer animation and sloppy green screen work.
Some parts of the movie looked and felt like leftovers of the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 footage.
There was an odd message of "cause justifies the means" and "it is OK to accept evil as long as it is lesser evil". That must be some kind of cultural/communist thing that plays out OK in that part of the world.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Watch the original

Bad script, horrible pace, no good one-liners. What a waste. We had free tickets, so we went to see this. I am sorry for Jason Momoa, who is a good actor (loved him in Atlantis). This should have been his vehicle.
Ron Perelman was great.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Boring and badly written

If you are looking for a Western, maybe you would tolerate this more than I did. As a sci fi or even adventure, this was terrible.
Pace was too slow in places, script was full of story lines that sounded like a 5 year old wrote it. Some things didn't make sense at all. Good characters were killed off for no apparent reason - after being set up and developed, they were, how shell I say it, just whacked. Weird, I would say even creepy, romantic moments.
Ford, Craig and others did a great acting job.
Between Favreau and the list of producers and writers, you would expect some thing completely different. What happened?
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Solid, but missed the point on key characters

The movies was very technically executed. The actors, the sets, the action - everything was spectacular, but it looked like they went through the motions to wrap up the series, but failed to sort out what was important and what was not. The story is there, but the essence of it is not.
Some characters looked cartoonish - Bellatrix and even Voldermort, specifically in the scene where he is at Hogwarts mocking the survivors. That was out of character.
My biggest beef is with the character of Snape, which should have been given more attention. When I finished the book, I said: "Snape was the most interesting and tragic character here. He was perfectly presented and had a very compelling story. He basically stole the book and made the end of the saga as much about him as about Harry or Voldemort". This should have been reflected in the movie. Considering the fact that they had Alan Rickman to portray the character, this could have been very powerful. Instead, they just made him look like love-sick puppy.
I like what happened with the Elder wand at the end. That was very anti-progressive. The point was, nobody should have that much power for good or bad. Otherwise, the ending was limp.
The bottom line, the movie was fun to watch, but lacked the soul and just walked you through the story. Maybe it is the way it was cut, maybe they just didn't have the vision...
Yes, I recommend this movie.

OK movie - a bit dumbed down

The movie was entertaining enough, though a bit stretched out. Bacon's character was evil without much explanation why. Acting was good, but the script had holes. Movie was dumbed down and simplified in some parts and in some other parts was complex and heavy - very inconsistent.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Entertaining but disjointed

Kenneth Branagh does not make 1 hr 54 min movies. He makes 3-4 hour epics. What ever was cut out of the movie, should have stayed.
The characters seemed somewhat underdeveloped, especially Portman's and Russo's. Some story lines were choppy and missing the background. Some things seemed to come from nowhere - that was bothersome.
Otherwise, special effects were great, characters of Odin and Loki were done well, jokes were funny, costumes were spectacular.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a former Soviet citizen - just as I remember

Overall - a good first installment for Rand's book. It starts a little slow, but speeds up half way through and really captures you towards the end. I guess this pace is a result of making a movie in three parts. Also, the book is huge, it is hard to get all the story lines unfolded and details captured in an hour and a half.
I came out of the theater pretty distressed. The story captures the essence of the socialism/communism philosophy very accurately. I lived in Soviet Union in the 70s and 80s - the rhetoric sounded very familiar and the results of implementation of this type of philosophy looked and sounded exactly how I remember it from my life in the "Evil Empire". I am a dissident - this movie reminded me what a miserable, suffocating existence the life in Soviet Union really was.
Acting was OK. Some actors did a better job than others; the main characters did well, so it is sufficient. I guess in 5 weeks of shooting and for 10 million dollars it is hard to do take after take to make it perfect.
I would love to see the part 2 and 3.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Very entertaining, just as a movie should be....

The movie was very funny, full of sci fi references - making fun of everything from ET to Star Wars to Alien and every other sci fi movie and show out there.
It is somewhat goofy, but it doesn't take too much from enjoyment.
Very religious people might be offended - there are a lot of cracks about god, Darwinism and atheism. All I can say about that - it's just a movie, lighten up.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
