I love the X-Files but this movie just wasn't that great. It might suffice if all you want is another X-Files episode, but after such a long hiatus from the show and the characters, I expected them to come back with a bang. Instead, as the saying goes, it ends with a whimper. There's a bit of paranormal stuff happening and a lot of moments between Mulder and Scully relationship that would just go flat for people who are new to the series and don't add much to people familiar with the show. After such a long break from the characters, even I was lost a little bit as to where they were going, as the drama wasn't fleshes out enough for a movie. Nothing new is added to the series, and overall it felt as if we've seen everything before, either in the show itself or in movies that have come out since, so it felt like there was no need to make this film. It won't make any new fans, and the existing fans already have the DVDs to fall back to.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
