HIDEOUS

This movie is impossibly bad on every level. It's hard to find anything to like about it. In fact, I can't. The writing is ghastly, either written by corporate committee or on some drunken weekend. But as bad as the story and dialog are the directing is hideous, the make up is caked on with a fork lift, the cinematography is awful and the lighting director should be shot. Every scene is horrifically unflattering to these attractive women and it's hard to look at, much less wade through for two and a half hours. Kim Cattrall must want to eviscerate everyone in charge and wonder why no one had their backs. It's like the equally awful "The Women," in which Annette Bening and every woman looked old and sad. Didn't anyone look at this when the scenes were shot and say, "Gosh fellas, this looks really awful, maybe we should fix the damn lighting!?" Who was in charge? Oh, Michael Patrick King, who wrote, produced, and directed this mess. Does he hate women or did he have a stroke?
No, I do not recommend this movie.

INSULTINGLY AWEFUL

Avoid "Alice in Wonderland" as if your life depends on it. It's offensively, insultingly, mind-numbingly God awful, written during part of a weekend by high school students on some hideous drug that makes you think whatever you write is inspired and good enough just get it done so you can turn it in on Monday.
There is northing to like. Every idea is moronic, I've come to hate Tim Burton's work and his "celebrated artistic whimsy" and I'm sick to death of Johnny Depp playing wooden, quirky characters with unblinking eyes and goofy voices. What a waste of a once brilliant talent. I haven't hated a movie this much in years.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The movie is stunning. I loved everything about it. The story is totally original and engaging. The characters are rich, the acting is wonderful and it's beautifully cast. The pace is exhilarating. It has momentum from the very first scene. The soundtrack is fantastic and the editing inspired. It has a sensational ending that is uplifting and life-affirming. It does everything you want a movie to do: take you away, reveal a world you've never seen before, and ultimately leave you feeling great. The entire audience burst into applause at the end, some spontaneously stood. Danny Boyle has not only done it again, he's achieved a new plateau. He's absolutely brilliant. I'm seeing it again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
