The first two-thirds of the movie were very engaging and suspenseful. Once that last third began, however, things went WHACK. Seriously, save your money. Don't even bother to rent at vid store. Lamest ending of all time. What a disappointment.
It was good to see the good guys on top in this suspense-packed film. Tons of edge-of-your-seat moments I honestly think we could've done without SO much gore, but the movie entertained & delivered. Wouldn't recommend to friends cuz mostly they're not the type to see this kind of gush-fest. Neither am I, though, but I just can't resist a good suspense story. And this IS that.
The beginning of the movie was okay. My 20-yr. old daughter (studying children's lterature) and I both sorta snoozed off shortly after the opening. Later on, we woke up, though. Movie seemed too long & for younger children, very scary. Definitely wouldn't take little ones to see it. Nor would I recommend it to any others.
Went to see this with my neice & nephew (ages 10 & 5). Expected to bear it but not be thrilled by it. It was especially sweet and quite enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone with kids ~ very family friendly. Not exactly a grown-up movie, though. Quite an underlying commentary on the state of our world also, which didn't go unnoticed by the 10-year old. Kudos.
The Ruins was a GREAT "summer read"~~a real page-turner! I didn't have great expectations for the movie though. I mean, really~~ plants?!! But the actors did their thing well, and my friend chewed off her fingernails. It was sorta fun. But don't go expecting Grade A "scary". A bit of a diversion is all it was.
