I don't know what people were expecting from this movie. I mean, seriously, we are talking about the Smurfs here! Anyway, if you ever watched the cartoon as a kid, you will enjoy the movie. It is very much along the lines of what I remember enjoying as a 10 year old boy, and the only thing that I missed was having Gargamel scream about hating the smurfs. Why we need to make EVERYTHING politically correct is besides me, but then again, it's probably done by the same people that expected this movie to be on par with "The King's Speech" or something like that. Take your kids and family to watch this movie and simply allow yourself to be entertained.
I was not sure what to expect of this movie but I was amazed by it. The acting, script, story line, everything in this movie is so well done. The story line reminds me of "Life Is Beautiful" where love is the driving force to get past tragic circusmtances. I higly recommend this film.
I enjoyed this movie. It was entertaining, action packed and overall an enjoyable movie. It was, however, not nearly as good as the other movies in this franchise. The time shift just took too much steam out of the story line. The new Evelyn and her fake English accent are a touch pill to swallow as a fan of the Mummy movies. Alex is played way over the top and the I could have done without him being included in the film. Another bad call was that there was not enough of Jonathan who has provided much of the comic relief in the previous movies. The movie stands up better on it's own with great performances from Frasier, Li, and Yeoh. It is not so great as a sequel as the characters seem too distant from the ones in the previous two movies.
