Trying too hard

Australia is a good family movie and the young boy who plays the aboriginal "halfcast" steals the show and your heart. Other than that, the direction and cinematography takes itself way too seriously and the overall effect is that this movie is trying too hard to be the next "gone with the Wind." but doesn't have the writing or talent to back it up. Three stars out of five.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
