I really dont understand all the raving reviews for this movie. When I first saw the commercials I knew it didnt look too great and I decided not to see it but a week later I saw all the wonderful reviews and thought it must have been good. Well I should have stayed with my first mind. The movie was so stupid. The sentimental crap made up almost the entire movie! I am an action buff and if you are too then this ain't the movie for you. They must have showed the same clip of his kids playing outside 30 times. After 20 minutes I was so bored I wanted to leave and if I didnt have other people with me ( who also didnt care for the movie) I would have.
The movie could have used a few more fight scenes but otherwise was pretty good. The bad reviews almost stopped me from seeing this movie but I'm glad I went and saw it for myself. I never seen the cartoon or even knew that it was a cartoon until recently. Perhaps thats why I liked it because I wasn't looking for it to be like the cartoon version. I went into the movie completely unbiased. To me the movie was worth while and fun too.
Once you get past all the ridiculousness of the melodrama the movie is quite funny. This is definitely a movie for teenagers though. The worst parts were all the closeups and slow dramatic music. It really wasnt needed. The sadness is what ruins the movie for most. Instead of all the sad closeups and music they could have filled that space with more action, which by the way only consisted of a few minutes of the movie.
I want to say congrats to Jaden Smith! The entire movie was great from start to finish. Young black boys almost never get serious roles like this one. White boys always get the lead. Ex: Percy Jackson, The Seeker, Forbidden Kingdom, Eragon, and so many more. I was so excited to see a classic role played by a boy of color when lets face it nowadays the black boys usually get the small comical parts as the lead characters friend at best.
I took three girls to see this movie (8,9,& 12) and at the end an applause erupted from the theatre and I looked over and all three of my girls were cheering and clapping right in the movie theatre. I believe this movie will stay with them forever. Thay havent stopped talking about it yet! Even I couldnt help but clap for Jaden's terrific performance.
