This was a breath of fresh air - Michelle Williams' portrayal of Marilyn Monroe is a tour de force, and the sweet story was beautifully filmed and draws you in. Yet another example where the reviews for a movie from Viewers are uniformly excellent, and yet the CRITICS are less than kind. Ignore the "official" critics and go enjoy this winner !
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a National Geographic movie, I had high hopes for this one, but I was seriously disappointed. The pros - the photography is absolutely stunning, a tour de force. It was clearly a labor of love, to record and follow the lions. The lions themselves are impressive, and the cubs adorable. The cons - Jeremy Irons' narration is lugubrious, and phrases are frequently repeated. The movie is v-e-r-y slow, which is OK, but it just feels like it should have been edited. It's as if they wanted to stretch it out to a full length movie, but really, it shouldn't be. I found much of the music quite jarring and not in sinc with what was happening. It's a good film, but you can also wait till it's on video. March of the Penguins had to be seen on the big screen. This one doesn't.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

RUN to see this movie ! Rarely has there been such a convergence of brilliant acting with a finely tuned script and stunning photography - I was transported. Colin Firth's performance is a tour de force, and to be fair, Geoffrey Rush's is no less. The story is true, which I did not know. This movie will stay with you for days after. It deserves all the accolades it is receiving.
Well I read all the reviews, and I am familiar with Mike Leigh's work. So I was looking forward to a wonderful movie. And I was sorely disappointed. Nothing happened in this movie. Yes, the lead is happy-go-lucky, but I don't get to the movies that often, and I would like to be moved/entertained /transported or something along those lines. It just goes nowhere. At least, there is no violence and no swearing. If I had to be completely honest, it was a bit boring, and a waste of time.
The settings are absolutely spectacular. The photography is brilliant. The main actors are excellent, and the cast of 1000's just takes your breath away. However, parts of the last third of the movie should have been seriously edited - it was just too slow, with not much going on. It changed the way I felt about the movie overall. But it is an interesting story, and definitely worth seeing.
