The Descendants is o.k. but definitely not great. Clooney is a huge problem: you don't believe him for a second. Also they didn't develop Clooney's character's decision about the land enough to make it hit home. But mostly it's Clooney. I am sorry to say it, because I like him, but he is just a terrible actor in this movie. No expression, no feeling, not believable AT ALL. Not believable as a married man in pain. He acts exactly as he acts in every other movie; same mannerisms, same expressions. It's as if a movie star inexplicably dropped into a melodramatic story with a lot of other wonderful acting. Go to this movie for the other actors: they are great. Particularly the older daughter, the other wife, the father-in-law.
This was an awful, and awfully long, movie. Lines fell flat all through the film, the storyline was mixed up and the plot was not compelling. Sill, I guess it was fun to see the characters again, and the sets were interesting.
