I saw this movie with a girlfriend (thinking my husband wouldn't be interested), and I was so surprised by how compelling it was! Kidman develops her character with her usual fine hand, Jackman shows greater depth than he has previously, and the supporting characters are strong. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the score is haunting from the beginning. I left the theater with red eyes from having cried so many tears for so long. Definitely worth the length of the film.
As my 9 year old said, "this was a cool movie." The exploding terra cotta effect early in the movie was a little too messy for our tastes, but the Yeti were a great hit. We researched the ancient terra cotta army before going and were amazed to find the true facts on this aspect of the movie. It made going much more interesting.
This movie was about as much fun as one could expect to have at the theater. I laughed, cried and had a romping good time, adrenaline rushing with every fast turn and flip. At one point in one of the racing segments, I turned to my husband in delight and said, "This is GREAT!"
Who knew the Racer family were also martial arts experts? I forgot that part about the cartoon.
Spritle and the Chimp offered comic camp, a la Scoobie and Shaggy. The rest of the characters were equally cartoonish, but, hey, this is a cartoon brought to life, so what would you expect? The bad guys are very bad, and the good guy are very good with just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.
My 8 year old had a hard time understanding some of the subtleties of the plot, but was mesmerized by the visual effects and the pacing.
