Have seen one other opera in this format two years ago, IL Trittico, composed by Puccini. This is a fantastic venue, whether or not you can afford to go to the Metropolitan Opera House...it is as if you are on stage with the singers. It is a phenomenal way to see live productions.
The special backstage scenes and discussions are such a bonus and really help us novices to have a greater understanding and appreciation for what goes into an artistic production.
I have been wanting to see Anthony Minghella's production and have been unable to get to the Met....this is the best staging ever.
What amazingly beautiful performances by Patricia Racette and Maria Zifchak. So very moving. A must see for everyone!
If you want to decide whether you want to see this film, read the "Critics Review". It is 100% on the money. Can't say much more than that.
All of the actors were superb including the children. Loved the use of the weather to enhance the plot. A very serious film, but not a tear jerker as so many are. A film that makes you think and stays with you long after leaving the theatre.
