I had planned to take my 15 year old niece, but I got sprung from work early the day before Thanksgiving so I decided to catch it alone. Thank GOD I didn't take her, I didn't think it my place to have taken her. As a work of art, all did a very good job at portraying their characters. I could def relate to the emotional, and some of the physical abuse heaped on Precious. It just left me in despair, I was looking for more of a triumphant ending for Precious. Tho she walked away free from her main demon, she was left with lots more baggage for her future. I agree this is a story that needs to be told,I hope it opens up some much needed dialouge, and/or gives someone the courage to either stand up for themselves, or help someone else.
This movie was a good movie overall, nice bit of music history for those younger viewers. I was SO happy to see Jeffrey Wright in what I consider the lead role, he was fantastic as always, this is one actor who is very underrated by Hollywood. I was suprised to find out that Beyonce served as Executive Producer, very impressive. As an actress, she still hasn't won me over, although she did pull a little more out of her hat for this performance, and as usual her voice was stellar. I was glad I spent the rainy evening watching this instead of re-runs at home.
This movie was pretty uneventful, and very predictable, not much chemistry with the cast either. Don't know if I should be glad that I had a free pass, or mad that I used it on this dozer! I wanted to waste some time while taking a break from shopping at the mall, mission accomplished. Love Sam but this was not his best choice of a script.
I thought this was one of his best movies yet, and I was glad to see some deviation from his usual themes, by introducing a lot more drama and juiciness to his characters and storyline. Slightly predicatble, but not so much that it spoiled the movie. ANd casting!! Alfre, Sanna, Taraji and KATHY BATES! Awesome, and I was was very glad to see my girl Robin Givens back on the scene looking good and with attitude to spare. Everyone played their role very well, even dum Chris, I know his character was written as such but did he really have to be so darn naive!? That was my only problem with the film. Great movie, and best part for me, I met a nice man and future movie going partner, we'll see how that works out!!! Go Tyler!!
