I was expecting so much.. I got so little. kinda like the Man of Steel.. and Iron Man 3... and the last presidential election. Those were also dissapointments.. Story fell apart about 1/2 way through. Slow, plodding. The villainess couldn't act her way out of a Geico commercial.. Who did she blow ..er I mean know to get the job? Casting was horrid. Sound quality is fair at best. Save your money and wait for cable..
I saw it yesterday at the 2:15 matinee.... Went in not knowing what to expect with the new director... Let me say this.. I'm a huge Iron Man series fan... a huge Robert Downey Jr fan, but I'm also skeptical of any series that makes it to a third installment. .. especially when they change directors.. Jon Favreau directed the first 2 and you just knew he was the right man for the task.. the new guy... not so much..
for instance.. the first Spiderman (with Toby McGuire) was good.. the second installment a near masterpiece.. the 3rd one was total crap... The first Batman (with Christian Bale) was good.. the second installment a near masterpiece.. the 3rd one was total crap.. The first Iron Man very good.. the second one pretty good.. the third.. this one... about as substantial as cotton candy...
The new film, IMHO is all over the place, mostly unrealistic (even for a super hero movie), and too long and I blame the director.. Like the 3rd Spiderman.. he seemed to want to put so much crap into it to outdo the last installment that it was an exercise in over-indulgence.. I would be more specific but it would give away some surprises towards the end... Now that the movie is over.. I can only remember one iconic scene... The skydiving scene.. Thinking back to the previous films I can remember dozens of great shots forever burned into my psyche.. This film was virtually forgotten before the lights came on...except for the ringing in my ears.
Am I glad I saw it?? Yes.. if for no other reason that what happens to Tony Stark at the end will figure into the next Avengers film which is due out in early 2015. Downey's contract is up EXCEPT for 2 more Avengers movies. Did I enjot IM3? Sure, but not as much as I was hoping, but... It's easily worth seeing once... Downey does a helluva job.
My god this was horrible. Painful to sit through. Previews made it look spanktacular and I love sci-fi.. I've had colonoscopys that were more enjoyable. Save your money and take your SO out to eat or to see Rango. as Roger Ebert said.. "Young men: If you attend this crap with friends who admire it, tactfully inform them they are idiots. Young women: If your date likes this movie, tell him you've been thinking it over, and you think you should consider spending some time apart. "
I'd bet my kingdom that JohnBK from Ohio has never seen this movie. Odd that he "suposedly" saw it before it was released. Here's a clue, my fellow "honest" movie goers.. Always wait for 48 hours and start reading at page 3-4 of the reviews to get an accurate feel of what to expect on this or any other movie. Almost all the first in line to post are not legit. Saavy?
The original was/is a masterpiece.. this version is horrible. Not great... not good.. not just bad.. it's horrible. Unbelievable. The writers butchered the best parts of the original story. The special effects are poor. Even Klaatu's spaceship is a serious disappointment. While Keanu and Jennifer Connelly are perfectly cast in the film.. everyone else is not. Cathy Bates? John Cleese? Give me a break!.. and in case anyone is wondering if the movie will feature "Gort"...the meanest robot that has ever been on film... yes he's in it.. he looks awsome..he looks like he could destroy the earth yet does virtually nothing... N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Unbelievable. Stay away.. Rent the original.
IMHO.. it's NOT epic. it's just big... It's NOT a great movie but it is a good movie. I blame the director. Not enough raw talent. The movie is 2 :45 long and could have been cut down..
The scenery in Australia can be as magnificent as New Zealand views in the LOTR trilogy, but in MANY shots they are using a CGI digital background ?? Why would they do that when the real thing is better? Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman don't disappoint.. there is obvious chemistry although the kisses do NOT look passionate.. I went in thinking it would be a GOOD movie and was not disappointed. Amber went in expecting a GREAT movie and was. It's definitely worth seeing.
Just got back from the new Bond movie.. amazingly.. it's not good... Not Daniel Craigs fault.. Bad writing.. bad directing..the first American director (it figures) to ever direct a Bond movie... bad cinematography.. thin plot... weak villain... no sex.. barely worth an early show price... Dang...and I thought the last movie was possibly the best Bond film of all time.. Right up there with Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice... Worth seeing but don't expect too much.. Roger Ebert gave it only 2 stars and I'd guess that's right on the money... Not Daniel Craig's fault.. he did all he could with what he had to work with..O, well.. I'll be first in line for the next one.. It's always good to see a new Bond.. even a badly directed one.
It's hard to recommend this movie.. the first 3/4 was not only hard to watch, but it was tedious. The last 1/4 was excellent and will have your heart racing.
Have you seen the movie Groundhogs Day? Well.. the first 3/4's of the movie is kinda like that... except it's played over and over to show a different "Vantage Point" for each character. Things are NOT what they seem.. and you'll NOT be able to tell who the good guys are and who are the bad. I like that aspect of it. On paper the idea of showing different versions must have looked like a good idea, but after the 5th or 6th time you are begging for the movie to take off. 2 or 3 perspectives would have been plenty. There were MANY in the audiance of the show I saw that were verbally groaning after about the 5th time..
Casting is good.. acting is good.. writing (in spite of the endless "do-overs") is decent although don't expect the quality to be anywhere near as good as a Vince Flynn or Brad Thor book.
The last 15 minutes rock making it at least worth an early show. and that's all I have to say about that. Pirate out.
I'll admit... I went in to this one thinking "please god.. don't let this be a "chic flic" ....and surprisingly.. it wasn't.. it was a well written, well acted, perfectly cast intelligent film that I think virtually any adult would love.. I've always been a Ryan Reynolds fan and he didn't disappoint.. This is probably his best acting role to date and he pulls it off...Of the 3 women in the story, Isla Fisher who plays April (From Wedding Crashers) is the most impressive and is absolutely beautiful to look at in every scene. I couldn't take my eyes off her.. She'll get lots of tasty roles after this one...Abigail Breslin, his daughter in the film is just icing on the cake...
All in all... I really liked this movie.. much better than I had expected. One of the best romantic comedies I've seen in a long while..I wish I had taken my wife.. she would have really loved this one..DOH!
Geez.. where do I begin.. this movie is sooo bad on so many levels. What a waste of money. First... I knew going in that the star, Hayden Christensen wasn't a good actor but the previews make the film "look" impressive so .. why not?!.. The last thing I saw him in was the Star Wars films and he was pretty bad in those, but amazingly.. he's gotten worse over time.. How is that possible? I've seen trees that were more expressive. Samuel Jackson is another story.. He's shown his chops in many films. One of the finest actors in the biz today, me thinks. His role in Pulp Fiction was astounding but he's also not above slumming it in movies like the Triple XXX films. He's even worse in this one. The only thing wasted more than his performance in Jumper was my $6.50 to get in. The young lady who plays the love interest, Rachel Bilson should give up acting and seek out a job in the food services industry.
However, casting aside, my main problem with the film was the bad writing. I don't think this catastrophe should be blamed on the director or even the bad acting.. The writer showed virtually zero understanding of human beings or how they react. Not only did he not even attempt to explain why the Jumpers can jump.. or how they came to be that way.. why they don't use their power for GOOD...or why the bad guys are hunting them .. or who the bad guys are.... or who funds them .. or why Samuel Jacksons hair is so distractingly white, but when people in the film find out they have these powers..They don't even wonder WHY themselves...??
I predict the film, on the power of the commercials alone, will sell big for about one weekend until the word gets out then drop off the cliffs of insanity .. hopefully along with the writer... I should have stayed home and watched the weather channel..
