Star Trek timeline RIP

This film is amazing. It's got heart, action and intrigue. I didn't always know where it was going or how it was going to get there.
HOWEVER, at the end of the film I shed a tear because this new film annihilates all things Star Trek that I grew up with as a kid.
They used the time travel card & drastically changed the history we have grown to love.
It's now probable that all characters in TNG (Picard, Riker, Jordy, etc.) which takes place 80 years later, will not even be born, let alone live the same lives & accomplish the same great thing. That's just really sad.
The Star Trek universe is so large; Did they have to erase TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and all episodes of the original series?
Yes, I recommend this movie.
