Excellent acting, Jeff Bridges is oscar-worthy and the rest of the cast is great too, good realistic heartfelt story, nice photography with expansive southwestern landscapes, good pace in the movie. I expected a slightly boring movie with great acting, it turned out to be really entertaining throughout.
Good idea, poor implementation, underutilized cast

The idea is great and the cast strong but the result is unfortunately poor. The scenes are too formulaic and the acting excessively dramatic, not to mention all the screaming. In the era of well-balanced romantic comedies like "Sex and the City" or "He is just not that into you", Shopaholic's approach seems very "last year". Pity because they could have done something much better.
The concept is good but the movie fails to create any real impact. It is supposed to be the end of the world but there is zero suspense! Only an occasional sense of urgency that is portrayed in such a blockbuster-hollywood way that is hardly believable. As if everyone just pretends they worry and they are troubled etc but in reality they don't because it is just a movie and it will have a happy end and the customer has already paid so why try to act?! I even tryied to look at the movie with a 50's naivete and it was still lousy!
The Coen brothers manage to take an otherwise sad story and turn it into a great comedy with a first-rate cast. Excellent performances, great direction and engaging camera work make for a highly entertaining film.
