Everyone or most everyone it seems, agrees that visually the flick is a killer. Storywise there's logic and crediblity problems. First we needed a far more comprenhensive primer to remind us the plotting from the prior three. That could have been done during the titles with clips from the original trilogy and with Linda Hamilton's voiceover as Sarah Conners getting us all up to speed. Then we would know exackly where we are storywise and how the adult John Conners could possibly be in the same timeline as his teenage Father, Also why was Skynet collecting human beings instead just killing them. We never got to that. Many others problems too with the scenerio too numerous to delve into in this micro mini review.
Warp Factor 10 +. That's the projectionile speed for this power flick, not 24 frames per second. This partial reboot prequel delivers beautifully on every level. Writing, direction, acting, effects, art direction etc. I think you get the rest. Plot line not the most original, but told with the great pernash. Main characters stunningly recreated and played out. Looking to continue to boldly go where no one has before - ad infinitum.
If your a hard core Jules Verne or Sci Fi fan , this movie nothing to write home about. But if you want a preview of what might be the next theme park ride, well, then, "This bud for you".
Dissappointing, Why? Been there, done that, seen that , etc. It's just essentially a retread ot the first one. Way out numbered good guy monsters fight bad guys monsters who as usual just want to "take over". And hey, considering how we've run things, maybe we should give them a shot. And of course there are the now obligatory love story, loyal sidekicks and hostile superiors. While the jokes were amusing, they were essentially out of contex one liners more at home in Saturday morning kiddie cartoons rather than possessing real wit and social satire, Moreover there are too many jokes, it gave the film the feel of sit com or of a Saturday Night Love skit for both the characters and scenerio and drained away the sense of wonder and fantasticalness so important to a film of this kind. Action and comedy can work very well together when their handled just right, IE. The first Star Wars trilogy, The original Indiana Jones trilogy, Men in Black 1,Superman 1 and 2, etc. But that takes genuine wit not just some out of human contex one liners. Best things about the flicks, the eye candy, staging, production values, worst thing a plot totally lacking in originality, and irritating attempts at humor that tended erode the magic rather then enhance it. You can do a lot better then this Guillermo. Indeed you have: Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, and a number of others in fact the best sequence in either Hellboy flick was the first 10 to 15 minutes in the first one. Scientists engaged in a perilious and dramatic never before tryed experiment into bizarre unknown. Classic SF and it was well done.
