This is not the typical violent, urban "shoot-em-up" movie-- in fact, almost the opposite. This movie tells a simple, moving story of a young man trying to keep his life on track, and how an unguarded moment time can drastically change everything for him and his family.
The casting was excellent. By not using a lot of high-profile actors (except for Octavia Spencer), the characters seemed like regular, everyday people, which made this true story an even more realistic movie. Also, the director's patience in developing the central character was very key for the movie's climax. So, the audience REALLY CARED about Oscar Grant (Michael Jordan). And by the end, there were a lot of people with tears in their eyes-- me, too!
Pros great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Lincoln was a very good movie. History and literature buffs will love it. The acting was excellent and the storyline very interesting. I appreciated the 19th Century dialogue. However, it took a little while to get used to the dialogue, and it made the movie somewhat tedious. Spielberg weaves another good story here, but you have to stay alert for it. Lincoln is not a "no-brainer"!
Pros great story, great actors, great set/costume
Cons dialogue is tedious
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a good movie about a great story. It's not award-level, but Red Tails is an American story that's worth sharing and seeing. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie didn't over-play the race issue; nor was there unnecessary cursing, sex or gory violence. This is a movie that anyone over 10 years old could see and appreciate. However, this was not a good role for Cuba Gooding Jr, Aside from the fact he's a mediocre actor in general (except in "Jerry Maguire"), he just wasn't convincing as a lead military officer-- almost laughable.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Tyler Perry is a creative genius!!

When I first heard that Tyler Perry was producing a movie version of "For Colored Girls...", I was doubtful that he could do justice to Ntozake Shange's classic theater poems. I was wrong!
This movie far surpasses anything that I could have expected. It is Tyler Perry's best work to date. He does not use his usual satire or trademark characters here. Instead, Perry reaches into a new bag of tricks, digs deep, and pulls out a creative masterpiece.
Perry skillfully interweaves dialogue to complement Shange's poetry. These gutsy poems are 35 years old, and yet, Perry makes them sound timely; as if the poems are newly written for today's contemporary audience.
"For Colored Girls..." is worthy of media buzz and Oscar nominations. These seasoned actresses grant superb performances. Even Macy Gray's cameo is pivotal. I predict that this movie will prompt a revival of the original play within the next year.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Just your average, brainless summer movie. It was kind of entertaining at first, but after an hour I was ready for it to be over. Fart jokes and one-liner set-ups get tired after a while, esp. when there's really not a plot involved. You're more likely to enjoy this movie if you don't have high expectations-- or a wristwatch
No, I do not recommend this movie.
