This movie depicted the inhumane emotional treatment that black maids suffered at that time in US history. Of course, not all people treated their help badly just as not all Germans were Nazis. The herd mentality was shown quite clearly. This book and movie were necessary to add to the documentary knowledge of the abuses of the times. This "witness" account is especially necessary for those youngsters alive today who can gain insight into the lives of their grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Another insight made by a friend is that usually we see the abuses toward the black men at that time. This shows the women's perspective
If it were not for the time period that the movie depicted this movie is a bust for me. Perhaps I am just too old to enjoy this type of movie. It reminded me of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" when the villian disintegrated.
How about you writers write something with substance? Something that we can see how a character overcame adversity...etc.
Whoa! What was I thinking blaming the writers!!! It's the studios who put the dribble out there.
I was angry because this movie was so predictable! I also felt ripped off because the trailers led me to believe this would be a real scary movie and it wasn't. I can't fault Leonardo DiCaprio as he gave a great performance.
This was an uplifting movie. It is what one has come to expect from Tyler Perry - excellence. Entertainment containing the human condition; good vs. evil. We all sit in the audience wanting our revenge knowing how wrong it would be! Mr. Perry works it out for us with humor and example.
I sat in the audience praising the Lord myself in the Church scenes! That is the closest some of the audience has been to a church in a while I bet! Yet it was not boring church at all! Great artists performing.
Though I adore Madea, I forgot her presence in the movie many times. I'll go to any Madea movie that Tyler Perry gives us! Amen!
Very cute movie to lift one out of all this stress we endure...Loved the dog. Loved the setting. Good thing the cruise ships weren't in at Sitka! Betty White takes the cake in anything she does.
Very Good. Denzel was wonderful as expected. And John Travolta really made me hate him. It's hard to hate Travolta because of his past movies, but the makeup was so unTravola-like that I forgot it was him and thought it was Ryder!
I had watched the original a couple days earlier and liked it. This remake was better though perhaps more simple.
I'm not fond of how Tony Scott flashes images before my brain can grasp what I'm looking at. The younger generation probably likes it and they are the bulk of the movie-going public.
I loved this movie. I used to watch all things Star Trek with my Son who is now 25. This Star Trek movie could be stand alone and still be entertaining to those who don't follow ST. The watching enjoyment is a step up for Trekkers because of the characters' casting and personality similarities to the original cast.
This movie is full of irreverent cliche. The character that Eastwood plays is a major compilation of any of our hatreds of difference in races; aAll allowing every one of us personally to be covered by one or more parts of his personality. Killing is a major theme, even killing in war. The commandment "Thous Shalt Not Kill" is prevalent throughout the film. Mr. Kowalski comes to terms with long-standing guilt of killing during the Korean war. One of the most important lines refers to the GUILT not being attached to the ordered kills, but the ones not ordered. Wow! The surprising ending is suberb in it's solution, both of Walt's demons, but also main storyline. The writers, Nick Schenk and Dave Johannson are genius!
This sequel was mediocre. I got bored during the last third. It was too long. It seemed more like a vehicle to set up Shia LaBeouf (Project Greenlight) for a possible "new" Indiana Jones III character. Poor Cate Blanchette must have been so bored considering how her talent is far above this character and the script. The jokes about Indy Jr's (Harrison Ford) age were a good way to handle the geriatric character.
