Physical comedy, timely dialogue delivery, and lead actor chemistry combine to make this a super summer flick. I rarely laugh from beginning to end, but that is exactly what took place throughout The Heat. McCarthy has established herself as an exceptional costar regardless of the genre, but physical comedy sets her far above her peers. The chemistry between her and Bullock is smooth like 'buttah".
Other highlights are provided through the local NorthEast/Boston neighborhoods cinematography and Southie family "stereotypes". If you are looking for a dynamic cop thriller - this isn't it. The intent here is outrageousness of dialogue combined with atypical gender action comedy. Come in from the summer heat, relax and enjoy. The audience I sat with was still laughing as they were leaving the theater.
This DVD along with The Bridesmaids will become one of the best 1-2 girl comedies in herstory!

Jude Law carries the weight of this movie on his shoulders as this medical suspense film explores the ins and outs of the relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and mental illness evaluators.
The film is well paced, with several twists and turns along the way. As a result, the depth of the female roles aren't developed in order to keep you guessing on their character.
All in all, this movie works. I came away feeling though that many opportunities were missed to go deeper into the characters and the relationship between pharmaceuticals and medical providers. Even the concluding scenes left me thinking that a director in the background had a stop watch and said "ok we're at 100 minutes, let's wrap this up" and the ending was quickly tied up.

If you are looking to be entertained, go see The Blind Side. If you are looking for a real-life depiction of the hurdles that an adolescent black woman from the projects must overcome in order to escape from a horrible, hateful environment and break out of the cycle that perpetuates the socio-economic condition of her family - see this movie.This is emotionally intense film. The 3 main characters are exceptionally acted with little hint of their Hollywood persona being portrayed in their characters. If you believe in the positive power and influence that an adult can have in a child's life - see this, but understand that the negative influence and tragedy is depicted also.
