The Start Trek brand name remains, but that is about the only trace of the original series. There were more fist-fights and general violence in these two hours than in the entire TV run, most of it gratuitous. Captain Kirk came across as an arrogant twit, not a skillful commander. Worst of all, the messages of one universe, quest for peace, and general sense of awe in the original series are totally absent, replaced by mindless special effects and conflict.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
