This is the kind of movie that will keep you thinking for a long time. Sean Penn is beyond brilliant -- he totally transforms himself and is utterly believable. He deserves all the Best Actor awards for this remarkable transformation. James Franco is a revelation bringing warmth, humor and gentle passion to his role. Emile Hirsch is a delight to watch. And Josh Brolin realistically brings to life the struggle that Dan White faced. Gus van Sant stays far away from the overwrought drama that has plagued some of his recent efforts and tells the Harvey Milk story with a gentle touch. His best film since My Own Private Idaho.
