The move was a very powerful love story that spanned decades. It showed heart break and guilt in a very sensitive way. The love semi-explicit scenes showed the evolution of an affair into a romance. The references to WW II and to the Holocaust were not shown to make a political statement but rather to delve into the minds of the characters. Who they were, what they were made of and possibly an explanation of their actions. The flash backs and flash forwards worked well to tie the events into a nice package. The music was very powerful and helped emphasize the emotions shown on the screen.
