A feast for the senses and the soul. Tim Burton and his wonderful cast and crew "get" Lewis Carroll and invite us on the next ride into Wonderland. Do yourself a favor, though, If you haven't read Carroll's books recently, give them at least a quick glance so that you can pick up on the references -- yes, the Mad Hatter does take some liberties with the Jabberwocky poem but I guess that's what happens with an oral history. I would not recommed this for very young children; although visually stunning, the film did prompt a three-year-old behind me to keep asking about every little thing that happened, and that's because you are expected to know the underlying story already. But do the kids a favor, if they can't read yet, you read the stories to them-- most of the movies out there give a bowlderized, saccharin, dumbed-down version and the kids deserve the full ride. Enjoy the muchness!
