Sound at Yorktown was great - an incredibly moving experience. I had no idea I would like this so much. Kudos to Philip Glass, the conductor and the wonderful performers.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Memphis - Great, But...

Our group really loved it, but all had the same complaint - it would have been so much better if during the musical numbers (especially the big choral numbers) the producers subtitled the words, as they do in operas. None of us had ever heard the music and we felt the diction was too fuzzy to understand the words. It was much better for the solos, but even then we lost some of it. Consequently, although we loved the IDEA of the numbers, we had no chance to appreciate the cleverness of the songwriting.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I saw this production in the live telecast and then in the encore. It gets better and better! The nuanced acting of the principals is astounding, particularly when you consider that they are singing at the same time - with a full range of dynamics to match the emotion of the scene. This is THE definitive Carmen. I am hoping the MET produces a DVD of this production. SEE IT!
