What is there really to criticize about Pixar? Everything the studio puts out is visually dazzling and meticulously devoted to pristine story telling. This is one is just another classic example. With a charming robotic love story, biting social commentary, and even allusions to 2001: A Space Odyssey, this should be yet another gem for kids and adults alike to enjoy.
I bought the sincerity of the main character's break up and felt that his emotional struggles were well portrayed. The comedic value of the movie, however, could have worked to a much better effect had the film been cut down by about thirty minutes. It would have been nice to see more of Segal's screenplay onscreen instead of the usual showcase of the Apatow fraternity--I enjoyed most of their roles, but not all. Unnecessary scenes/characters made this film drag on a little too much for me but overall found myself laughing quite often.
