I saw the movie with my 15 year old daughter. It was funny and touching. It was original, creative and flowed well throughout, although perhaps a little slow at the beginning. Altogether both my daughter and I had a great time and were thoroughly entertained.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I saw the movie with my wife and my 13 year old daughter and we all loved it. My wife is not very interested in animated movies and my teenager is rarely interested in anything but we all thoroughly enjoyed this funny, sometimes sad, movie. It has a slow start, until the children are adopted its sort of hanging on Steve Carell who is not always that funny to me, but once he has the kids to bounce off the pace is quick and lots of laughs.
This movie is probably not for 20 somethings. There was a point in the movie where the two older main characters counseled the 20-something "wunderkid" who had just had a bad breakup. The gist of the converstation was that people have a much different perspective on things when they are 25 than they have when they're in their 40s or 50s. The things that are so critical when you're 15 to 30 seem minor when you can see your children going through them.
And that's what this movie was about, perspectives and how our perspectives change given changing circumstances, age and experience. That sort of thing sounds slow and boring to a 25 year old.
I would recommend this movie to people over 40, for the most part. Its not for kids.
Very entertaining movie. Highly recommended as a movie experience. Robert Downey Jr. is at his usual eclectic pitch while Jude Law manages to reign him in about the time he starts going over the top. Background and scenery are very authentic and put you in the time and place. Supporting cast is great, I especially liked Eddie Marsan's Inspector LaStrade which was played extremely well by the actor.
This is unquestionably the most amazing movie experience I've ever had. We saw the IMAX 3d version and I found myself wholly enthralled throughout the length of the movie. Everyone should see this movie, it's certainly one of a kind and a classic.
Not too predictable (I haven't read the books), not overstated, good action and dialogue, altogether very entertaining for adults who may have to sit through another vampire movie with their teenager. Reilly is very good as the weary vampire who's seen it all, and a couple of cameos by Willem DeFoe (an always entertaining presence) are enjoyable.
