"Man of Steel" was a respectful, yet modern retelling of the Superman myth. Henry Cavill is an incredibly beautiful man and just about perfect for the role. He portrays and delivers a certain innocence and goodness that is essential to the character. Amy Adams rocks Lois Lane, Russell Crowe is outstanding as Jor El (Superman's Kryptonian dad) and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are pitch perfect as John and Martha Kent (Superman's adopted parents). The remainder of the cast is solid as well with Michael Shannon doing a fantastic job as General Zod. I also loved the peek into life on Krypton. I think this is the first time that I ever got the sense that Superman came from a really *alien* place. Great job all around (I thought the fight scenes could have used a little more judicious editing) and I recommend it highly to fans and moviegoers alike.
Pros great story, great actors
Cons too long on fight scenes
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Don't Listen to the "Critics"

I made the mistake of reading a few reviews before seeing the film yesterday. Some reviewers were downright cruel and savage in their assessment of Pattinson's acting abilities (or lack thereof). Those reviewers would have been helpful if they had actually critiqued Pattinson's performance and not his fake, sparkly vampire alter-ego. As it was, the only thing I got out of their "reviews" was their jealousy over his looks and his loyal fanbase.
With their "reviews" in mind, I've got to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! The scenes of animal cruelty were difficult to stomach (I found myself flinching through those.). Christoph Waltz was brilliant and I found that Robert and Reese portrayed a credible romance. Although I always considered Marlena to be older than Jacob, I wished that the producers/director had gone with someone a little closer to Rob's age (say someone closer to 30 than 35). Other than that, I enjoyed the quiet passion of their love affair and that look of pure adoration that Jacob (Rob) gives Marlena (Reese) at the end of the film was damn near perfect. He grows as an actor with each film he completes and I will follow his career eagerly as long as he continues to act in films. The near capacity crowd I saw the movie with seemed to agree and there was enthusiastic applause at the end of the film.
So suck on that, "critics"! And continue to be jealous of Mr. Pattinson because this movie proves that even his feet are beautiful! He has a long and successful film career ahead of him, should he decide to go that route, and he surely does not need your "critiques" to please his legions of admirers. I, for one, will be a repeat audience member.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Wonderful Family Fare

How could they turn a lovely little book into an hour and a half movie? Well, pretty easily by the looks of things. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this movie and like I said, the creative people made it all seem so easy. From the plot, to the animation itself, to the voices (which were absolutely pitch perfect -- James Caan as the dad was a standout) -- everything couldn't have been better. Funny without even trying and a wonderful lump in the throat moment -- this movie had it all. I was disappointed to see far fewer people in the audience for this movie than the awful "Ice Age" movie, a movie I actually slept through. My 10 year old son loved it and I heartily recommend it to people of all ages.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Suspenseful Action Movie

Not exactly what I thought it was going to be, but worthwhile nevertheless. Nothing that hasn't already happened to human beings, but I suppose that's part of the point. Great chase and action sequences and the aliens look very realistic. Except for all the effin' this and that, I wouldn't hesitate to take any mature adolescent who knows that most people do not speak like that in their everday lives.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I took my 10 year old son with me and we both enjoyed the movie; however, it seemed a bit pedestrian to me. Frankly, I've seen better documentaries on The Discovery Channel (a partner in this production it seems). The cinematography was amazing -- the animals shown, beautiful. I agree with one of the other viewers -- it was a bit depressing to see that one beautiful animal die literally within feet of a food source. Frankly, I expected more of a "plot" as the ads led me to believe. The narration was lovely thanks to James Earl Jones. I probably wouldn't take children over the age of 10. Little ones might need an explanation of the "Circle of Life" concept beforehand although there was no bloodshed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I really enjoyed myself immensely watching the film. Of course, nothing could match the magic and the wonder of the first film (RotLA), but this one was highly entertaining and it was a joy to see Harrison Ford and Karen Allen together again. Shia LaBouef was a terrific addition and I enjoyed the action as well. My nine year old son loved the movie and proclaimed his intention to become an archeologist as soon as possible. Nowadays I find it difficult to find a live action film that I'm not embarrassed to take my son to and that I can enjoy as well. This film fit the bill perfectly.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
