I am incredibly picky when it comes to movie adaptations of books. There were a few things that were changed for the movie (some of which I feel were not necessary changes) but the movie stuck to the core of the book. Due to time constaints for movies and budgets not EVERYTHING could be addressed the way the reading public would have liked, but the movie did a fantastic job within the parameters allowed. The casting was fabulous! The different textures of filming (more grainy in district 12 and 11 and brilliant in the Capital) really brought to life the the stark contrasts between the locations. Excellent movie!!!!
The movie itself was fantastic. The animation was top notch and all of the characters were amazing. I would have given it 5 stars, but the movie changed too many things in the story line from that of the books. The Pure Ones had nothing to do with St. Aggie's, yet they ran it in the movie. Kludd pushed Soren out of the nest and was NOT taken to St. Aggie's himself, yet this too was not how the movie portrayed it. I am not sure why directors feel the need to take wonderful stories from literature and change MAJOR portions of the story line. We weren't even introduced to some fairly important characters in the movie. My children love these books and were rather disappointed that, once again, the movie did not live up to the books. Movies always seem much better to those that have NOT read the books.
