Amazing effects, great humor, and creative ideas. The forest battle was one of the best I have ever seen. Unfortunately this is only half of a movie. I'm sure that it was the fault of the writers' strike that the story turned into a laughably incomprehensible mess full of crater sized plotholes. There is a very boring half hour desert sequence that looks like it was not edited at all. There were also Transformers that died in the first one that appear out of nowhere with no explanation. I hope that this will be re-edited for Blue Ray. Watch for the visuals only. Don't even try to understand it.
No wonder Bale was moody on the set. This movie sucked. Misleading trailer--poorly conceived, acted, and directed---laughable at some points---just bad. I've never seen Bale act so badly before. Annoying cliched characters galore that you don't care about. Everything that you ever wanted to see in the war with the machines you will NOT find here. You will only find a sleep inducing plot about "second chances". Long gone are the days of T1 and T2. The series concluded with T3 for me.
This movie was incredible --- funny, sad, exciting, and compelling. Events were manipulated through time travel so that it is now possible to create an entirely new series and not be bound by the continuity of the previous Star Trek entries. None of the other Star Trek TV shows or movies ever happened--or you can think of them as having happened in an alternate timeline / parrallel universe--very imaginative! In addition to an excellent movie, the IMAX experience brought a whole new level of clarity and sound. You actually felt as though you were in the movie. There is no comparison. This is what it must have been like for people watching Star Wars for the first time in 1977 with the new invention of stereo sound.
--fine performances, very well paced, well written, tense, and emotional. Von Stauffenberg's adjutant demonstrates his loyalty in a powerful scene at the end during the executions. General Beck's final scene was also very moving. The development and ultimate failure of the coup was fascinating to watch, as were the motivations of the characters-- their reasons for choosing one side over another. This movie is Oscar worthy, but it will be shunned by the Oscars and receive mixed reviews simply because the Tom Cruise is in it. It's sad that such an important movie will be critiqued based on an actor's personal life rather than on the film itself.
..was the only good thing about it, besides the first fifteen minutes of tension. Then the movie degrades into a poorly written and poorly acted left wing cheesefest. Klaatu might as well have landed in Nazi Germany because they shoot him as soon as he lands, attack his Spacecraft, capture his robot, GORT, and then make more attempts to kill him throughout the movie. The GORT scenes (about five minutes altogether) were scary though, although his CGI wasn't very good. The movie was another attack on Republicans, portraying them as militant, paranoid, and dictatorial. These type of political statements in movies are getting old and boring.
boring......Story was surprisingly bland..no frights, no interesting twists or turns. I walked out when they started having the psycho-religious conversation about believing in things that aren't what they seem or something. I guess that was the end of the movie...don't know---couldn't take any more. Utterly shocked that this movie got 4.5 stars from Roger Ebert. Rent the first one instead.
--hilarious, fun, creative, scary, and full of surprises! There will be people complaining about the plot because it is so different than the usual Indy formula, but it was such an imaginative and entertaining script. Spielberg again demonstrates his genius by putting a refreshing spin on the material. The ending was fantastic. You never know where the movie is going, which adds to the mystery. Also---The movie beautifully connects with the first one and brings the series to a very satisfying conclusion. Much better than THE LAST CRUSADE, and on the same level as TEMPLE OF DOOM. Of course, nothing will ever come close to RAIDERS, but everyone knows that.
