This is the movie that others only hope to be -- creepy as all heck. It scared the bejeezus out of me and left me afraid to go home alone. I've long been fascinated by the film's subject and went in expecting a tame rehashing of information I'd already read about. Boy, was I wrong. There are so many jaw-dropping and OMG moments in this movie. I literally got chills over and over again to the point that I realized I was seeing something I'd been waiting all my life for -- tangible, real evidence. Even for someone well-versed in the material there is enough here to blow one's mind. I cannot imagine anyone who is not a "believer" walking out of this film the same person. Few movies can change your perception on the world. This one will.
Fanboys is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Some scenes were too drawn out. But there were more scenes that were just right than not. I especially loved the shorter jokes. References to Star Wars were not just "inside stuff" that only diehards would get. I was impressed at how the cameos are worked into the script, not just dropped in because they were willing to do it. The story was believable. Chris Marquette stole the movie. It's an ensemble cast and everyone has their great moments but the story is mostly about his character. He brought more depth to his role than the others did to theirs. Jay Baruchel comes in a close second. I really enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to.
